As per my "About Me" section, I am continuously inspired by the people and places around me. A friend of mine recently changed her profile picture and she is wearing this great striped Maxi dress (pictured below) paired with a great pair of brown heels and a skarf, in turn making it an amazing fall look. She purchased hers at a thrift store for 6$ making me that much more jealous!

Maxi dresses should not be reserved for summer time, you can easily achieve a stylish fall look with a long dress.
Discussing with a friend of mine over breakfast this morning, you can pair your Maxi dress (20$ at H&M if you're on the lookout for a simple plack one) with a pair of ankle boots and socks or wear nylons and pair with heels (or vice versa). Top it off with a jacket/shrug/oversized sweater and you've got a perfect fall look.
Keep in mind to keep the material in cotton or jersey for a more casual/fall look.
